In 1932, Guelph baseball fanatics got to celebrate the winning of the Senior Intercounty Baseball Championship. If those fans had known that it would take 38 years to win another championship, they might have wanted to celebrate a little longer. Finally, in 1970, the Guelph CJOYs finally put the Guelph name on the trophy, ending a drought in a city that once was mad about the game. That 1970 team was a perfect blend of home grown talent and success in recruiting the best available players in the area. Under manager George Ashley, the team assembled a pitching staff that featured Ron Stead, recently inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, Dave Lemanczyk who went on to pitch for the Toronto Blue Jays and a number of graduates from the Guelph Minor Baseball Association.
