2014 U16AA GUELPH SODROX PREDATORS

The Guelph Sodrox Predators Ringette team had a season for the ages in 2014. Playing in the “AA” division, the highest most competitive category in the Canadian ringette championship stream, the team finished the regular season with 64 wins, no losses and one tie. They were deadly on offence averaging over 7.5 goals per game or 492 for the season, while allowing just 171.

The Predators qualified for the provincial playdowns and marched through the tournament with eight straight wins over the four-day event. As provincial champion they earned the right to represent Ontario at the Canadian Ringette Championships.

After arriving in Regina, Saskatchewan the Predators picked up where they left off going undefeated through seven round-robin contests. They dispatched Quebec in the quarter-final, then Manitoba in the semi-final to set up the gold medal game against the only other unbeaten team in the tournament – the Alberta Sting.

Guelph trailed 4-3 after one period but instead of folding they doubled down and rode the hot stick of Nicole Shaw. Shaw went out in the middle frame and scored three straight goals to give Guelph a lead they’d never surrender. Madison Jarvis also had a big game with a goal and three assists. Samantha Gorgi made 26 saves in the 6-5 win. In the end Guelph outshot Alberta 63-31.

Emma Eccles and Samantha Gorgi were named to the tournament 1 All-Star Team while Nicole Shaw and Mariah Coverdale were named to the 2 All-Star Team.

Upon their return to the Royal City the Canadian champions were presented with City of Guelph medals for representing their city with great athleticism and sportsmanship.
