WILLIAM ‘DUTCH’ DEBOER

Dutch deBoer is Guelph’s version of Paul Newman in the Hustler. DeBoer is a snooker player extraordinaire who has won many provincial and national championships.

DeBoer won his first provincial championship back in 1961 and went on to win that team title three of the next four years. He played the game he loved throughout his life and reentered competitive snooker in 1996 when he won Gold Medals at two Senior Games events. In 1994 he was the International Snooker League Singles Champion at a competition in London, England.

DeBoer also gave back many hours to the sport. He has been President of the Ontario Billiards and Snooker Association on three occasions and founded the Senior 55+ Snooker League in Ontario. He organized the first ever 55+ Senior Championship which took place in 2000 at the River Run Centre in Guelph. Just to show he could still handle his cue with great skill, he went out and won Canadian Championship.

A proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, deBoer has run the table in his beloved sport of snooker.

Inducted into the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame – Athlete category – on May 2, 2001
