Ron Scott grew up tending goal in Guelph’s rinks. Whether it was Memorial Gardens or Exhibition arena, the product of the Guelph Minor Hockey Association, followed his love of the game to the Cornwall Royals of the Ontario Hockey Association. There, along with future Hall of Fame forward Dale Hawerchuk, he carried his team to the Memorial Cup championship in 1979-80.
He followed his junior years by attending Michigan State for three years where he was chosen as an All-American. The Hockey News named him their NCAA Player of the Year.
After school, he was signed by the New York Rangers and he played for the Blue Shirts in parts of four seasons before his talents earned him a spot with the Los Angeles Kings. There, he had the honour of playing with one of the greatest players ever – Wayne Gretzky.
“I respect the game and the opportunity to play at the highest level” said Scott who is now looking forward to coaching and watching his children as they take their turns in the world of sports.
Athletic skills run deeply in the family. His daughter represented the United States in an international lacrosse competition in Australia in June of 2007. She has earned a spot to represent Canada in the next world lacrosse championship to be held in Prague.
He has also helped coach his son’s hockey team in recent years while working as an investment advisor in Syracuse NY.
