Greg Marshall is Mr. Mustang.
Last year, in a vote by University of Western Mustang fans, he was selected as the most popular player to ever play for that school. An unbelievable honour when you consider the number of outstanding players that have come out of that football factory. Marshall was a devastating fullback for the Mustangs between the years of 1978 and 1981. Over his university career he ran for just under 2,000 yards and 23 touchdowns. His best season was 1980 when he ran for 913 yards (averaging 8.3 yards a carry) and nine touchdowns. For his efforts he was selected as the Hec Crighton award winner as the top player in all of Canada. Twice he was an OUAA all-star, he was named as Western’s Athlete of the Year in 1982 and MVP in the Yates cup in 1980.
In 1982 he was drafted by the Edmonton Eskimos only to a have a very promising career cut short by knee injuries. Despite his short stay he managed to win the Grey Cup in 1982.
Since retiring, he has chosen to share his knowledge and love of the game with young players. First as an assistant for 13 years with the Mustangs and most recently as the Head Coach of the McMaster Marauders where he has turned around a struggling program.
