He is one of the very few men to be raised in Guelph who went on to not only play, but coach in the National Hockey League.

Aldo Guidolin first came to prominence as a member of the Memorial Cup winning Guelph Biltmore Madhatters in 1952. That fall the rugged defenseman graduated to the NHL where he played four seasons with the New York Rangers. During his career he amassed 9 goals, 15 assists and 117 minutes in penalties.

Guidolin than moved to the tough American Hockey League where he became somewhat of a legend playing 13 seasons. He was captain of the Providence Reds, Cleveland Barons and Baltimore Clippers and won the Calder Cup while a member of the Reds in 1956. Aldo was
a first team all-star twice and he left his mark because he is still second in all-time penalty minutes in the AHL.

When his playing career ended, he moved on to coach the NHL’s Colorado Rockies and was later named the team’s Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel. After his association with pro hockey ended, this very popular gentleman moved back to the Royal City to work in real estate and became an assistant coach with the University of Guelph Gryphons.
